WORTMAN, John A., a lifelong resident of San Leandro, passed away at home on Friday, May 13, 2011 at age 59. He is predeceased by his parents, Augustus and Ernestine Wortman. John played varsity basketball for two years at San Leandro High before graduating in 1970. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was a devoted employee of Lucky Stores for over 30 years and also a member of the Retail Clerks Union. John was an avid sports fan, especially the S.F. Giants and 49ers. He was also a fan of whatever horse he was betting on at G.G.F. or Bay Meadows race tracks. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at the Usher Inn, 391 Lewelling Blvd., in San Lorenzo. J.W. was loved by all and will be missed by all.
